EMERALD SOCIETY OF ILLINOIS
NEWSLETTER (ONLINE EDITION)
July / September 2006

A letter from your Secretary
Summer is here, school is out and families are preparing for vacations. Please be careful in your travels etc.
Our membership is growing and we have many past members rejoining the Society.
The picnic will be July 30 at the Bemis Forest Preserve. This is a new location. See the picnic information under Calendar of Events.
The dinner dance is approaching and we need the members help in making it a success. I will be mailing out ad blank applications for our ad book. These ads are what support the dinner dance. Every member has at least one business person that they deal with or are friends with. We are asking every member to sell just one ad.
The scholarship drawing is coming up in September. To be eligible a member must be a member in good standing and have paid dues for the last four consecutive years. I will be mailing the cards to eligible members in August. If you do not receive an application and feel you should please contact me via phone or e-mail.
I am asking all members to keep their eyes and ears open during the year and when you hear of an incident where an officer went “above and beyond” the call of duty, please forward the name and if possible copies of the report to the Emerald Society.
Please remember to notify us of any change of address or working status.
If you have any questions I can be contacted directly at my office 847-336-6939 or via e-mail Secretary@EmeraldSocietyofIllinois.org
Respectfully submitted,
Jim “Mac” McCarthy

GOLF OUTING
The golf outing will be held on July 10, 2006 at Carriage Greens Country Club in Darien Illinois. There will be a shotgun start at 10:00 AM. The cost for this years outing is $100.00 per golfer or $400.00 per foursome. The price includes green fees and cart, lunch on the course, four hour open bar including bottled beer and a seven course meal. Each golfer will also receive a souvenir shirt for participating in the outing. The outing has sold out for the past five years so the committee suggests that you make your reservations early. Only your payment will secure a position in the outing. For further information or to find out where to mail your check, go to “emeraldsocietyofillinois.org” and click on the link for “officers of the Emerald Society” and find Patrick Moriarty. Please include your name, e-mail address and phone number or call my voice mail at
847-772-0709. Please make checks payable to the Emerald Society of Illinois. The golf outing is the most successful fund raiser for the building fund and generates the bulk of the revenue from its sponsors, not the golfers. You are paying for what you get. We hope to see you at the outing again this year. If you know of anyone that would like to sponsor a hole or make a donation, please contact Patrick Moriarty at the above e-mail or voice mail for further information.

If a member has any of these pictures please contact Kevin at kgb60655@aol.com or 773-233-5313.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
The Executive Board has received numerous complaints concerning members bringing known felons to meetings/events as guests.
The Chicago Police Department and almost every other police department in the State of Illinois have rule or regulation that prohibits police officers from fraternizing or associating with know felons.
The board has met and decided that any know felon attending any meeting / event will be required to leave and will be warned not to return. Per our Attorney, any person that has been warned and does attend another event may be subject to arrest for trespassing.
Any member that brings a felon to a meeting / event will be advised by the board that the member may face suspension or removal from the Emerald Society of Illinois should the incident be repeated.
