Letter from the president:

Our annual St Patrick’s Day party was held at the Galleria Marqueti on Saturday March 14th. We were disappointed with the amount of uniformed marchers, but it was not surprising due to the low morale of the rank and file of the Chicago Police officers which affects all other agencies in the greater Chicago area. We would like our members to come out in uniform in 2010 and show their pride in their heritage despite the political climate. We would like to thank everyone who traveled from Joliet and from cost to cost to attend the gala. We would also like to thank Kristen Colon and Mark Hierl and John Ingle from Chicago Beverage Systems for all their help with the party. They were instrumental in securing Guinness as a sponsor for the event. We are looking forward to working with them and the Galleria Marquitte for the 2010 parade.

Our April “traveling meeting” was held on at Lannigans Pub on 111th street. We served pizza and had a cash bar. We had a few new members sign-up that evening and also had an appearance by the pipes and drums of the Emerald Society. Thanks to Lannigans for their hospitality and their special drink prices.

The children’s sports night was held on Monday May 11 at Assumption church. Each child revived a piece of sports equipment and raffle ticket for a bicycle and helmet. We awarded a boys and girls bicycle along with an autographed photo of A.J. (Persinski) of the Chicago White Sox, an autographed program from the Chicago Blackhawks, a Chicago Bulls program and two Chicago Wolves tickets. We would like to thanks the parents who took time out of their busy schedule to bring their children down to the meeting. We would also like to thank Kathy Flannery, Mike Kane and his sister Maureen who helped to secure some of the items given out that evening.

The Golf outing was held on Monday July 6th at Carriage Greens in Darien, IL. We had approximately 86 golfers and about 100 for dinner. We had the most beautiful day, though attendance was down the outing was profitable. The outing may be changed to the week after the 4th of July depending on  availability at the Golf Course.

Our picnic was at a new location again this year; it was at Palos Park Woods. We had great weather and about 80 people attended.  We had a raffle and gave away 12 cases of beer, cash and two bicycles for the children. We would like to thank everyone who traveled from near and far who attend the event. Thank you also to Tom Cody, Rick Toolis and John Sullivan for cooking and to Marty Quill for picking up the Ice Ceram and everyone who helped out that day.

Our dinner dance will be held on Friday September 25th at White Eagle Banquets in Niles. IL. There is more information enclosed inside the news letter.

We also have our upcoming meetings where nominations for elections of officers will be held. There will be several positions open due to some officers not seeking reelection. The organization is in need of active or retired law enforcement officers that have good secretarial skills and who are willing to attend general meetings and board meetings which are generally two weeks before our general meetings. We will also be discussing our yearly dues as well as charging retires at a reduced rate.

Is mise le meas,

Patrick J. Moriarty

President

Just a thought for you to ponder:

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred...

You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.

You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

        .....Abraham Lincoln
