A letter from your Secretary
I am going to begin this letter by apologizing to the family of Jonathan Walsh of the Joliet Police department that died in the line of duty on July 20, 2004. I had spoken to his Uncle William Walsh and he had requested that I put a notice in the next possible newsletter (March / April) and I had agreed to do so. The notice did not appear in the letter that I sent to the printer and for that I apologize to the family.
The above paragraph also identifies an area that we are trying to institute into the newsletter. I am trying to set up a special column in the news letter that will be used for all personal announcements. This would include deaths of members, (duty related or not)
Marriages, promotions, illness and any other information that members would like to pass on to other members. These notices would be placed and would remain on the website for any member to view. So please forward the information to me via e-mail, regular mail or phone. I would prefer that you used either the e-mail or U.S. mail so I have a hard copy to refer to.
Remember that we are requiring members to check in when they arrive at the meetings, so bring your ID card to avoid having to stand in line. CHECK YOUR EXPIRATION DATE ON THE MAILNG LABEL. IF IT DOES NOT SAY 2005 YOU ARE NOT PAID UP AND MAY BE DENIED ENTRY TO AN EVENT OR MEETING.
Please remember to notify us of any change of address or working status.

LICENSE PLATES

Many years ago the Emerald Society would sell ad space in the newsletter to help defray the cost of producing the letter. We are going to revive this and see how it goes. Prices per issue will be $10 for business cards, $25 for a ¼ page, $50 for ½ page and $100 for a full page.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY
The St. Patrick’s Day parade and party were held on Saturday March 12, 2005. The crowd was large and everyone had a great time. We had officers attending from all over the country and Ireland. This includes Washington State, Arizona, New York, Wisconsin and Ireland. I apologize if I missed someone. The boys from Arizona stated they will be back and will bring jackets with them next time. I wish to take this time to thank all the board members and volunteers that made the event a success
DINNER DANCE
The annual Dinner Dance was held on April 23, 2005 at the O’Hare Hyatt.
Honored as man of the year was Cook County Assessor James M. Houlihan
The Justice award was given to the Honorable William T. O’Brien Cook Co. Circuit Court Judge.
Police officers of the year were Sgt. Kevin W. Boyd of the Des Plaines Police Department along with P.O. Michael O. McKenna and P.O. Mark C. Timmel of the Chicago Police Department.
P.O. Richard D. Toolis Emerald Society 1st Vice President and P.O Patricia S. Clarke Treasurer of the Emerald Society .were awarded the Emerald Society President’s Award.

SPORTS NIGHT
Our annual Children’s Sport Night will be Monday June 13, 2005 at the Assumption Church. Starts at 7:00 P.M.
GOLF OUTING
The golf outing will be held on July 11, 2005 at the Carriage Green CC in Darien, Illinois. Fee for this year is $85.00 per golfer for entries received before June 1, 2005 after that it is $95.00 per golfer.
A note to members even if you don’t golf we are looking for hole sponsors and door prizes etc, .

The annual Emerald society Picnic will be held July 30, 2005 at Lions Woods in Des Plains, Illinois. It is at the corner of Milwaukee Ave and Golf Rd.
RAFFLE MOTOCYCLE RAFFLE
The Emerald Society is selling raffle tickets for a 2005 Harley Davidson V-Rod motorcycles. The tickets will be $25.00 each and a maximum of 1000 tickets will be sold. The drawing will be at the summer picnic.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
The Executive Board has received numerous complaints concerning members bringing known felons to meetings/events as guests.
The Chicago Police Department and almost every other police department in the State of Illinois have rule or regulation that prohibits police officers from fraternizing or associating with know felons.
The board has met and decided that any know felon attending any meeting / event will be required to leave and will be warned not to return. Per our Attorney, any person that has been warned and does attend another event may be subject to arrest for trespassing.
Any member that brings a felon to a meeting / event will be advised by the board that the member may face suspension or removal from the Emerald Society of Illinois should the incident be repeated.
